AkzoNobel’s latest Automotive Training Center is co-located with Colourfast, one of Queensland’s largest distributors of auto paint, industrial paint, marine paint, abrasives and sundry items situated in the Brisbane suburb of Hillcrest.
Richard Pratt, CEO of I-CAR Australia officially opened the center after the welcoming remarks from Joe McFadries, General Manager, AkzoNobel Automotive & Aerospace Coatings, Australasia and Japan.
“AkzoNobel’s new training center is another indication of how high-tech the collision repair industry has become,” Pratt said.
“With technological advancement comes the need to keep pace and AkzoNobel’s commitment to this is obvious.”
Pratt also emphasized that AkzoNobel’s new training center represented more than a location for learning.
“Importantly, it shows the importance AkzoNobel places on partnerships, especially those it has built with its distributors and customers.”
“This event is a milestone for our industry, especially in Queensland,” he said.
The new facility includes a Lowbake oven, mixing room and prep bay which were all used on the evening to demonstrate Sikkens Eco-Logical low VOC products including Sikkens Autowave® waterborne basecoat, as well as traditional solvent borne products. Course classroom facilities are also available for theory teaching, which will take place alongside the practical training.
AkzoNobel’s impressive new Automotive Training Center represents a significant financial investment for the global paint and coatings giant. The comprehensive facility is now the company’s base for delivering its extensive training and professional development programs serving the Queensland market.
According to Joe McFadries, ensuring a strong future requires the right investments.
“This is a vital long-term commitment that will support not only our customers and distribution partners but also our industry,” he said.
“AkzoNobel is committed to ongoing training and professional development for the Australian automotive refinishing industry and our all-new training center underlines this.”
Among the guests was John Montgomery from Colourfast Automotive and Industrial, AkzoNobel’s Queensland distributor.
“This was an excellent event and another example of the professional approach AkzoNobel takes.”
“This new training center will be great for our industry’s tradespeople.”
Trend Smash Repairs’ Ray Iversen had a similar view.
“The evening was a great success.”
“Opening AkzoNobel’s Automotive Training Center represents an important step for our industry.”
